Interview with TAPS Alum, Torrance Buntyn Jr.

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

We sat down with Torrance Buntyn Jr. to talk about his time at TAPS. Torrance participated in both TAPS Online in 2020, and TAPS LA Music Festival in 2021. Torrance received his Bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University and is now pursuing his Master's degree from Southern Methodist University.

Q: What is your favorite memory from TAPS?

TB: I especially loved when we got a chance to play real film scores! It felt like I was in an actual Hollywood studio.

Q: How did TAPS impact your musical journey?

TB: TAPS impacted my musical journey in so many ways. TAPS is one of my biggest influences in starting an orchestral career path from when I started with the 2020 Online Summer Intensive, Online Fall Academy, and as well as the LA Music Festival! Learning and being exposed to other professional orchestral percussionists made me become a better musician, as well. It’s truly an inspiring experience.

Q: What are you currently working on?

TB: I am working on some festival audition lists and a fellowship audition! I’ll be putting to use all the tools I learned from TAPS.
